Clare Aster

Clare grew up in Suffolk, studying bassoon, piano, singing and theory, and performing with the county's Youth Wind Bands, Jazz Band and Orchestra. She then went on to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire on bassoon, and then the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, in Music Theatre, gaining Distinctions in both. Clare has been teaching bassoon, piano, saxophone, performance and theory to students aged 4 to 54 since 2010, and integrates her acting training with music to encourage imaginative and healthy playing. She has performed internationally in orchestras (with conductors such as Lionel Friend, Guy Woolfenden, and Stephen Barlow), at home on the cliffs of Cornwall in a thunderstorm and on the beaches of Suffolk in a heatwave, played saxophone whilst tap-dancing in various choppy locations between Peru and Singapore, and has also narrated a ballet via bassoon solo. She loves to find the story within a page of music, and to help performers connect with their work.
