Oran Johnson

Oran is a London-based composer and multi-instrumentalist. He is studying for a master’s degree in composition at the Royal Academy of Music, supported by a Vaughan Williams Bursary, and previously completed an undergraduate degree in music, earning the prize for the best overall result. His piece ‘Tear it apart’ was highly commended in the Alan Bush Composition Prize, and he has also composed works for acclaimed ensemble CHROMA, for an event at the Van Gogh House, and for the Academy’s Students Create Festival.

Oran’s music draws on his eclectic variety of musical experiences. As a pianist, he has received tuition at the Academy, performed as a soloist, been repetiteur for opera productions and accompanied choirs. For years he also gigged as a guitarist with various rock and jazz bands.

Oran is experienced with working with children, having also led practical composition workshops in schools, but is equally passionate about teaching adults, encouraging a love of and interest in music to develop at any age.
